The bereaved family of the late Mr. Jang, a victim of the Jeju missing persons case that was falsely closed, filed a damage suit worth 100 million won against the Republic of Korea and the relevant police officers today (September 23).

The legal counsel for the bereaved family explained the grounds for the claim, stating, "This is an incident where the state failed to fulfill its duty to protect the lives and safety of its citizens, leading to the worst possible outcome."

Mr. Jang was found dead at a farm in Jeju Island on August 24, about 100 days after the initial missing person report was falsely closed.
