South Korean women's backstroke prospect Kim Seung-won (Gyeonggi Sports High School) has claimed a valuable bronze medal in the women's 100m backstroke at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Kim finished third with a time of 1 minute, 00.10 seconds in the women's 100m backstroke final held today (the 23rd) at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Japan.

Having previously won a bronze medal in the women's 50m backstroke with a time of 27.72 seconds on the 21st, Kim has now secured her second bronze medal of the tournament.

Kim displayed explosive speed in the early part of the race.

She turned first at the 50-meter mark with a time of 28.60 seconds, the fastest among the 10 finalists, sparking hopes for a gold medal.

However, she allowed fierce challenges from her competitors in the latter 50 meters, narrowly missing out on the top of the podium.

The gold medal went to China's Peng Xuwei, who touched the pad in 59.30 seconds, while Japan's Rio Shirai took the silver with 59.89 seconds.

Lee Eun-ji (Bangsan High School), who competed in the final alongside Kim, finished fifth with a time of 1:00.51.
