A man in his 40s who repeatedly fired a BB gun toward an apartment complex late at night has been apprehended by the police a year and a half after the initial report of damage.

The Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced that it is investigating a man in his 40s, identified as A, who resides in an officetel in Sillim-dong, on charges of special assault.

A is suspected of repeatedly firing a BB gun from his officetel toward the apartment complex situated about 30 meters away.

At the time, YTN captured footage of A lowering the curtains of a dark window and firing consecutive BB bullets with only the barrel of the gun poked outside.

The first report of damage was filed in April of last year.

At the time, a resident was hit in the arm by a BB bullet while sorting recycling, but police faced difficulties identifying the culprit due to a lack of clear clues.

Even after that, BB bullets continued to fly in every night, leaving piles of pellets in the apartment flowerbeds and heightening residents' anxiety.

A, who was finally caught by police a year and a half after the report was filed, stated that he committed the crime after buying an electric rechargeable toy gun "to watch the glowing BB bullets fly."

In addition, A reportedly claimed that "it was just something done for fun and not aimed directly at people."

Police have requested a detailed analysis of the gun used by A from the National Forensic Service while investigating the exact circumstances of the crime.
