Newly appointed Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee So-young said regarding the benefits of Onnuri gift certificates used in traditional markets, "More benefits should be directed toward purchases made in traditional markets to further incentivize and boost consumption."

Minister Lee made the remark during a tea-time meeting with the Korea National Federation of Merchants and market vendors at Yeongdong Market in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, which marked her first official external schedule since taking office.

Minister Lee emphasized, "I understand that the government is scheduled to announce a reorganization plan [for Onnuri gift certificates] in the next few days," adding, "I believe the Ministry of SMEs and Startups must take the lead in ensuring that Onnuri gift certificates are used more widely in traditional markets."

Regarding the agricultural and marine product refund events held during major holidays, she explained, "I am aware that there are various voices from different markets because not all markets are designated and receive benefits."

She went on to say, "Since this is a project promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, it is an aspect outside of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' direct policies," but promised, "I will listen closely to the words of traditional market vendors and consult with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Oceans to look into ways to make it more helpful starting from the Lunar New Year next year."

Minister Lee added, "It is meaningful to spend my first schedule as the Minister of SMEs and Startups with the federation and vendors," and promised, "If you share your opinions and remarks, I will meticulously look into them and work to create changes in a direction that is helpful."

Previously, Minister Lee wrote on Facebook the day before, "As the head of the ministry in charge of small and medium-sized enterprises, venture companies, and small business owners, I will find answers in the field," and added, "I will not work like a civil petitioner trapped in specific interests, but will make rational judgments based on the benefit of the entire public."
