South Korea has won a silver medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event at the Asian Games. Pairing up with Ban Hyo-jin, shooter Park Ha-jun hit a perfect score on his very final shot in the third-place match, pulling off a thrilling comeback victory against Japan.

Ban Hyo-jin and Park Ha-jun trailed in third place behind China and Japan up to the second stage of the finals.

During the second of the three shots in the third-place match, Park made a major mistake by scoring only 9.9 points, leaving South Korea 0.8 points behind second-place Japan heading into the final shot, making a bronze medal look likely.

Then, Ban suffered cramps in her foot and called a time-out, which turned out to be a stroke of luck.

Regaining his composure, Park miraculously struck dead center with his final bullet for a perfect 10.9 points, while the Japanese shooter managed only 9.5 points, completing a thrilling comeback drama.

Having dramatically secured second place, the national team could not overturn the deficit against China—which had been leading by more than 3 points—in the gold medal match, ultimately claiming the silver.

Ban and Park, who each picked up their second medals of the competition, presented the silver medals to the public ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

In the men's 400m medley relay, South Korea won the bronze medal with a new national record, reaching the podium for the second consecutive competition.

Kim Young-beom, who swam the final freestyle leg, claimed a medal for the third consecutive day, following his gold in the 50m freestyle and silver in the 100m freestyle.

Kim Woo-min, who had drawn high expectations, finished at the bottom of the pack in the 1,500m freestyle due to lingering effects from a shoulder injury that has plagued him since two months ago.

Kim will still compete in the 400m freestyle where he aims for his second straight title, but he has given up his spot in the 200m, and his participation in the 800m will be decided after consulting with medical staff.

With the injury to triple Hangzhou champion Kim Woo-min, a red light has turned on for South Korean swimming's quest for a record number of medals.
