South Korea and the United States have not yet reached an agreement regarding investment in a stake in the U.S. nuclear energy company Westinghouse, Reuters reported, citing sources.

The issue of investing in a Westinghouse stake is one of the key sticking points in the ongoing investment negotiations between South Korea and the U.S.

While the South Korean government entered negotiations aiming to secure a stake of around 20 percent in connection with a new nuclear power plant construction project consisting of eight units in the U.S., the U.S. side has reportedly capped the stake limit at the 7 percent level.

The South Korean government has demanded around a 20 percent stake and substantial voting rights, including participation on the board of directors, in order to improve unfavorable contract conditions signed during the Czech nuclear plant export deal and to secure competitiveness in future overseas nuclear plant exports.
