A fire broke out at the No. 1 plant of the Seokpo Smelter in Seokpo-myeon, Bonghwa, Gyeongsangbuk-do, at around 10:10 PM yesterday (September 21).

Fire authorities deployed 12 vehicles and 27 personnel, completely extinguishing the fire in about an hour and 20 minutes at around 11:30 PM.

There were no casualties, but some mechanical equipment, including a conveyor belt inside the plant, was damaged by the fire.

Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and the scale of the damage.

A fire had previously occurred at the Seokpo Smelter on July 9, causing damage such as the burning of air pollution control facilities.
