President Lee Jae-myung is embarking on a visit to the United States and Mexico from September 21 to 27.

National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac outlined President Lee's summit diplomacy itinerary during a briefing today.

First, President Lee will attend the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York.

On the afternoon of September 22, he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the UN General Assembly Hall, where he will propose directions for UN reform to resolve global challenges and South Korea's contribution measures, while also laying out a blueprint for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, Wi said.

President Lee will then hold a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to ask for the UN's continued attention and cooperation for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Amid keen interest in whether he will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, Wi stated, "There will be separate contacts in various formats with leaders of major nations, including the United States and Australia," adding, "Through this, we plan to continue close bilateral exchanges between leaders and discuss ways to cooperate to advance our national interests."

On September 24, President Lee plans to attend the Korea Investment Summit 2026, which brings together business and financial figures from South Korea and the United States, to promote South Korea's AI policies and vision, as well as capital market reforms, to global investors.

Wi noted, "Following the declaration of the return of a democratic Republic of Korea at last year's UN General Assembly, this year's session will serve as an opportunity to share and spread the pioneering policy experiences created by democratic South Korea over the past year as global public goods."

He added, "We will secure support from the United Nations and the international community for our policy of peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula," emphasizing, "Through this, we will build international momentum for peace on the Korean Peninsula."

After concluding his schedule in New York, Lee will visit Mexico at the invitation of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

This marks the first state visit to Mexico by a South Korean president in 16 years.

Arriving in Mexico City on the evening of September 23, President Lee will begin his official schedule on September 24 by laying a wreath at the Monument to the Boy Heroes (Altar a la Patria) before attending an official welcoming ceremony at the National Palace.

He will then take part in one-on-one and expanded bilateral summits with President Sheinbaum, followed by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony, an official luncheon, and a joint press announcement.

On September 25, Lee will attend a business forum held at the World Trade Center in Mexico City and visit the K-Expo venue, before departing for home on September 26.

Wi explained, "Through this visit, we will strengthen substantive cooperation with Mexico in trade, investment, and supply chains," adding, "We will hold in-depth discussions on institutional support measures to firmly assist South Korean companies entering and operating in Mexico."

He also said, "We will actively discuss ways to cooperate on energy and mineral supply chains with Mexico, which possesses abundant natural resources such as crude oil," and added, "We will also establish a foundation for cooperation in high-tech industries including AI, digital technologies, aerospace, and defense."

In particular, Wi anticipated that the potential contributions of South Korea's defense industry could be discussed as Mexico pursues military modernization projects.

Wi also evaluated Mexico as a key consumer market for Korean cultural content and added that preparations would be made to ensure the visit serves as a milestone in establishing a firm foundation for the shared prosperity of both nations.
