An object presumed to be a ballistic missile launched by North Korea is believed to have fallen outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Kyodo News and NHK reported, citing an announcement from the Japanese Ministry of Defense.

The Ministry of Defense checked for any damage within Japan caused by the projectile and stated that no reports of damage have been received as of yet.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi instructed relevant ministries to make every effort to gather and analyze information regarding the North Korean projectile and to thoroughly ensure the safety of aircraft and vessels.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) also announced, "We detected a ballistic missile launched from the area around Wonsan, North Korea, toward the East Sea at around 3 p.m."

This comes two days after North Korea threatened "responsive action" in protest of U.S.-led exercises in the Asia-Pacific region.

This marks North Korea's 14th ballistic missile launch of the year and its first launch in eight days.

The JCS is conducting a detailed analysis of the specifications and range of the North Korean ballistic missile.
