The South Korean men's basketball national team was unable to hold their scheduled training session on the day of their bid for their first Asian Games gold medal in 12 years after their transportation failed to show up.

The South Korean men's basketball team is set to face Japan in the final of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games at the Aichi International Arena in Nagoya, Japan, starting at 7:40 PM today (September 20).

Prior to the final, the team had planned to warm up with shooting drills at a separate gymnasium in the morning. However, the vehicle assigned to arrive at around 10:00 AM reportedly failed to show up without any explanation.

Stranded without transportation, the national team had no choice but to cancel their planned training.

The South Korean men's basketball team has raised expectations for a gold medal by reaching the final of this tournament, marking 12 years since their victory at the 2014 Incheon Games.

Ironically, this incident occurred just ahead of the final against the host country, Japan.

Operational issues and disruptions have plagued the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games even before its opening ceremony yesterday.

Criticisms have persisted regarding accommodations being unsuitable for athletes, and cases of disruptions in transportation for official schedules have continued to pile up.

The national team is expected to take formal action through the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.

The committee previously lodged protests with the organizing committee over a welcome ceremony performance at the athletes' village featuring Toyotomi Hideyoshi, as well as an incident where the North Korean anthem was played instead of the South Korean national anthem at a men's hockey match.
