An unexplained explosion at a military facility in eastern Syria has left 11 people dead, foreign media outlets including AFP reported on the 19th, local time.

According to foreign reports, Syrian authorities are investigating the cause of the blast, which occurred the previous day at a military facility in the Deir ez-Zor region.

Syria's state-run SANA news agency reported that funerals were held for the 11 victims killed in the explosion.

Explosions involving military facilities have occurred consecutively in Syria recently.

Earlier this month, an explosion at an arms depot in the northwestern region killed 14 people, and a vehicle carrying ammunition also exploded, killing more than 5 people.

In Syria, the 14-year civil war effectively came to an end in late 2024 when former President Bashar al-Assad was ousted by rebel forces, but sporadic clashes continue to persist.
