With the Chuseok holiday extending by two days from five days to a week, navigation destination settings for domestic travel destinations have roughly doubled, data showed.
According to Tmap Mobility, which analyzed destination setting data for the top 1,000 locations during the Chuseok holidays in 2024 and 2025, the number of travel and leisure destination settings increased by 145.3 percent and 287.5 percent, respectively, compared to the same period just before the holidays.
Destination settings for condos and resorts surged by 303.1 percent in 2024 and 812.4 percent last year, expanding the growth margin compared to pre-holiday periods by about 2.7 times, while the growth margins for beaches and theme parks also grew by 2.6 times and 2.5 times, respectively.
Destination settings for tourist attractions increased by 272.9 percent in 2024 and 474.9 percent last year. Specifically, settings for Jeonju Hanok Village rose by 2.7 times and 6 times, while the Korean Folk Village increased by 2.4 times and 3.9 times.
Destination settings for tourist attractions and cultural facilities in Seoul also rose by 51.3 percent in 2024 and 90.7 percent last year.
Shopping destination settings grew by 43.4 percent in 2024 and 56.3 percent last year. Department stores, however, saw a 12.8 percent decrease in 2024 and a mere 3.2 percent increase last year.
Traditional market destination settings increased by 298.6 percent in 2024 and 541.9 percent last year, expanding the growth margin by about 1.8 times, while destination settings for cemeteries for ancestral grave visits also rose by 311.2 percent and 611.5 percent, respectively.
Tmap Mobility analyzed that the effect of the long holiday went beyond outbound international travel, extending to overall domestic movement including accommodations, sightseeing, traditional markets, and visiting ancestral graves.
