South Korean men's tennis has advanced to the Davis Cup Finals (quarterfinals) for the first time in history, led by ace Kwon Soon-woo (ranked 157th, Chungnam Sports Council).

Today (September 19), Kwon defeated Sumit Nagal (ranked 247th) 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) in the singles match on the second day of the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifiers held at the Seoul Olympic Park tennis courts.

After winning both singles matches held yesterday (September 18) and losing the first doubles match earlier in the day, South Korea secured victory as Kwon clinched the decisive third point, making it 3-1.

Following his victory as the vanguard in the opening singles match the previous day, Kwon delivered another win to claim two victories and perform beyond expectations.

Having first participated in the Davis Cup in 1960, South Korea had never reached the quarterfinals before, making it to this stage for the first time in 66 years.

The Davis Cup Finals feature the top eight men's tennis nations in the world and will take place in Bologna, Italy, from November 24 to 29 this year.

Aside from the host nation Italy, South Korea has become the first team to secure a ticket to the finals.
