All of the top five most congested highway sections during last year's Chuseok holiday were found to be on the Seohaean Expressway.
According to data submitted by Korea Expressway Corporation to lawmaker Hwang Hee of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, the top five most congested expressway sections during last year's Chuseok holiday were all on the Seohaean Expressway.
In particular, the section from Iljik Junction to Geumcheon Interchange experienced the worst congestion, logging 67 hours of gridlock during the Chuseok holiday period.
The section from Seopyeongtaek IC to Poseung JC recorded 58 hours of congestion, followed by Seopyeongtaek JC to Baran IC with 41 hours, and Seopyeongtaek JC to Seopyeongtaek IC and Dangjin IC to Songak IC with 35 hours each.
Over the past five Chuseok holidays, a total of 61 highway traffic accidents occurred, resulting in 4 deaths and 45 injuries.
By cause, failure to pay attention accounted for the most with 31 cases, followed by speeding with 8 cases, and failure to secure a safe distance and other driver-related factors with 7 cases each.
