Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, announced that it will hold a public briefing session at 2 p.m. on September 22 at the Moran Hall in City Hall regarding plans to reduce flight safety zones and ease height restrictions around Seoul Air Base.

This briefing is organized to share the progress and future plans of the Research Project on Changing and Reducing Flight Safety Zones, which Seongnam City commissioned last June in response to demands from residents in the old downtown area of Sujeong-gu who have faced setbacks in redevelopment and reconstruction projects due to height restrictions.

During the session, the Korea Aerospace University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, the agency conducting the research, will explain plans to ease height restrictions in Flight Safety Zone 2—which involves reviewing options such as narrowing the width of the Seoul Air Base runway strip and the potential non-operation of the eastern runway—followed by a Q&A session.

Once the research project concludes next month, Seongnam City plans to formulate a regulatory relief proposal based on the findings, submit it to the Ministry of National Defense, and propose adjustments to the flight safety zones.
