The Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) held an international conference to revitalize cross-border broadcasting co-productions and share new production technologies and storytelling.
The KMCC announced that it hosted the 2026 International Broadcasting Co-Production Conference (IBCC) on September 18 at Novotel Ambassador in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, under the theme "One Story, Borderless Screens: Cross-Border Collaboration in the Glocal Era".
Marking its 11th edition since launching in 2016, the event brought together around 200 officials and experts from domestic and overseas broadcasters, production companies, related organizations, and academia.
During the afternoon sessions, participants shared successful cases of international co-productions and discussed how to utilize each country's technologies and production expertise as artificial intelligence (AI) transforms content production.
In the keynote address, Ann Shin, head of Fathom Film Group, gave a presentation on "Content Expanded by the Power of Story," while Stephen Laslocky, Vice President of Media Partners Asia, presented successful international co-production cases and the future of global cooperation during the global session.
An awards ceremony for outstanding co-productions was also held.
The Grand Prize was awarded to "ED & RYU: Mad About Seafood," co-produced with the United Kingdom by production company Studio Janchi, while the Top Excellence Award went to "ASEAN-KOREA Music Festival," co-produced by KBS with Malaysia and the Philippines.
KMCC Chairman Kim Jong-cheol said, "Through co-production, we can share costs and risks while leveraging each country's strengths to take on wider markets," adding, "We will support the revitalization of co-productions by expanding co-production treaties and establishing broadcast video data infrastructure".
Meanwhile, ahead of the conference on September 18, Chairman Kim met with Philomena Gnanapragasam, Secretariat Director of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to successfully host the Asia Media Summit (AMS), scheduled to take place in South Korea in September 2027.
Under the agreement, both sides agreed to cooperate on the overall preparation and operation of the AMS.
