President Lee Jae-myung has declared Baeksu-eup in Yeonggwang County, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, a special disaster zone after it suffered damage from torrential rains.

Around 9 p.m. yesterday (September 17), President Lee declared Baeksu-eup in Yeonggwang County, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, a special disaster zone following a joint central survey.

Baeksu-eup is an area that suffered damage from torrential rains that continued from August 28 to September 1.

With the declaration of the special disaster zone, the region will receive additional state funding for disaster recovery, and affected residents will be supported with deferrals on national and local tax payments as well as reductions in utility bills.

"The government will finalize the recovery plan as soon as possible and make active efforts so that residents in affected areas can return to their daily lives promptly," said Cheong Wa Dae Senior Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung.
