Ahead of the US-China summit, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is leading high-level negotiations for the U.S., has stated that the two countries are open to discussing common risks they face in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

In an interview with the U.S. online media outlet Axios on the 16th (local time), Bessent said, "The U.S. remains the leader in the AI sector," adding, "We are open to discussions to avoid the risks mutually faced by both sides and to prevent our AI systems from decoupling."

Bessent is scheduled to meet with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York on the 20th.

During the meeting, they plan to discuss economic issues including AI, trade, and rare earths, and finalize the agenda for the US-China summit to be held at the White House on the 24th.

Previously, CEOs of AI companies urged cooperation between the U.S. and China on safety standards for AI technology.

In response, U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed the idea of slowing down AI development, citing fierce competition with China.
