Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, has introduced artificial intelligence technology to operate a pothole monitoring system. It has been shown to significantly reduce time, public complaints, and costs.

An alert appears on the monitor of a district office road maintenance official, indicating that a pothole has formed on a city road.

An AI system precisely analyzes data from vehicles equipped with shock-detection sensors and road-imaging devices to provide real-time notifications.

Yongin currently monitors road conditions by attaching pothole-detection devices to a total of about 300 vehicles, including city buses, town buses, and official government vehicles.

As a result, maintenance time has been cut down to one-third, and compensation costs for pothole-related damages have dropped by 25%.

In addition, the number of civil complaints regarding potholes decreased by 19%.

Recently, the city integrated the previously operated e-People civil complaint service into the AI system to boost efficiency.

Yongin selected the AI Pothole Monitoring System as the top exemplary case of proactive administration for the second half of this year.

Yongin also expects that the accumulated pothole processing data can be utilized for future road condition management.
