Gyeomjae Jeong Seon is a master of true-view landscape painting who vividly captured the mountains and rivers of Joseon. Marking the 350th anniversary of his birth, a total of 200 works, including 72 National Treasures and Treasures, have gathered in Daegu.

A scholar sitting comfortably on the wooden veranda gazes at the flowers in a pot.

This is "Dokseo-yeoga" (Leisurely Reading), the opening piece of "Gyeonggyo Myeongseung-cheop" (Album of Scenic Sites on the Gyeonggang River and Han River), which is considered to be a self-portrait of Gyeomjae Jeong Seon.

"Siwahwangsang-gan," an agreement to exchange poetry and paintings with Lee Byeong-yeon, his lifelong friend and a prominent poet of the era.

The exhibition begins by shedding light on the life of Jeong Seon the human, rather than just his artworks.

Next is the Treasure "Cheongpung-gye," a masterpiece created by layering multiple strokes of ink over magnificent cliffs and old trees, which is nothing short of overwhelming.

Jeong Seon's footsteps extend beyond Hanyang to Yeongnam.

Serving as a local official for seven years in Hayang and Cheongha—present-day Gyeongsan and Pohang—he captured the mountains and rivers of Yeongnam on canvas.

From "Dalseong-wonjodo," depicting Daegu viewed from Hayang, to Andong's "Dosan Seowon" and Pohang's "Naeyeonsam-yongchu," regional scenic spots unfold from the tip of Gyeomjae's brush.

In addition, Gyeomjae's delicacy and vitality stand out in various genres, such as "Choo-il Hanmyo" (A Quiet Cat in Autumn), which meticulously expresses even a single hair of a cat crouched beneath chrysanthemums.

The finale of the exhibition is Mount Geumgang.

From the masterpiece National Treasure "Geumgangjeondo" (General View of Mount Geumgang) that needs no words, to the Treasure "Pungaknaesan-chonglam" capturing autumn Mount Geumgang, eight panoramic paintings of Mount Geumgang—never gathered together before—are showcased in one place.

"Sinmyeonyeon Pungak-docheop," painted in his 30s, and "Haeak-jeonsincheop," completed in his 70s.

Comparing Gyeomjae's Mount Geumgang works hung side by side across a 40-year span is left to the audience.

This exhibition features a total of 216 works, including 1 National Treasure and 71 Treasures.

It is the largest domestic exhibition scale in history dedicated solely to Gyeomjae's works.

The Daegu Gansong Art Museum's special exhibition commemorating the 350th anniversary of Gyeomjae's birth runs until December 27.
