The confirmation hearing report for Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won was adopted today (September 17) in the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, led by the MINJU Party.

During this process, members of the People Power Party walked out 12 minutes after the meeting began in protest against the adoption.

While the MINJU Party takes the view that suspicions—such as allegations that Kim solicited the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for clinical trial approval of a COVID-19 treatment—were clarified through the hearing, the People Power Party maintains that the allegations have not been resolved.

Representative Park Hyung-soo of the People Power Party criticized the move, saying, "The tabling of the motion to adopt the report proves that the confirmation hearing itself so far was merely a formality." In response, Representative Kim Eui-kyeom of the MINJU Party stated, "Because the difference of opinion with the People Power Party was significant, it was not an easy situation to reach a compromise," adding, "I believe the public will understand."
