The Bank of Korea (BOK) stated on September 17 that "the future monetary policy stance of the U.S. Federal Reserve is expected to remain restrictive."

Kwon Min-soo, Senior Deputy Governor of the BOK, made the remarks during a market monitoring meeting held at the BOK in the morning, noting that "overnight, the Fed raised interest rates for the first time in about three years since July 2023, while Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized his commitment to price stability and signaled the possibility of additional hikes."

He diagnosed that "external risk factors continue to persist, including the progression of the war in the Middle East, trends in international oil prices, concerns over the fiscal soundness of major countries, and uncertainties surrounding the artificial intelligence (AI) industry."

He added, "As monetary policy decisions by major countries such as Japan and the U.K. are also scheduled for this week, we will maintain a high level of vigilance and closely monitor conditions in domestic financial and foreign exchange markets moving forward."
