Do I qualify as middle class?
You have probably wondered about the conditions for being in the middle class at least once.
An analysis has emerged suggesting that rather than simply how much one earns, the ability to maintain one's current standard of living in the future is what matters most.
The 100-Year Life Research Institute under NH Investment & Securities analyzed data from last year's Financial and Welfare Survey to propose the criteria for a 'true middle class'.
The evaluation considered not only income, consumption, and savings, but also assets, liabilities, and preparation for retirement.
Households meeting all these criteria accounted for approximately 25% of the total, or about one in every four households.
The median net worth of these households was approximately 417 million won, with financial assets standing at around 112 million won.
Additionally, the homeownership rate among them was found to be 73%.
