Many of you probably live in apartments or villas.
What do you think about a request asking residents in multi-family housing not to cook foods with strong smells like chonggukjang (fermented soybean paste soup) or samgyeopsal (pork belly) late at night?
The title of a recently uploaded post is, "Have we reached an era where complaints are filed if you boil chonggukjang in the evening in multi-family housing?"
Looking at a photo of a notice posted in an apartment elevator, it contains a message stating that heavy cooking odors have been flowing in heavily during evening hours recently, causing great inconvenience to daily life.
In particular, it appealed that strong food smells, such as the smell of chonggukjang and grilling meat, enter homes through balconies and windows around 8 PM, making it difficult even to leave windows open for ventilation.
Online reactions included responses criticizing the notice as going too far, asking, "Can't we even boil chonggukjang or grill meat in our own homes?"
On the other hand, there were quite a few voices saying that while chonggukjang and samgyeopsal are both great, the overly strong smells are honestly difficult to deal with, and residents in multi-family housing need to be somewhat considerate of others.
We are curious to know your thoughts.
