Seven elementary school students playing in the Hantan River in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province, fell into the water, resulting in one student going missing before being found in a state of cardiac arrest.
According to police and fire authorities today (September 16), a report was received at 3:08 PM today stating that "children appear to have fallen into the water" in the Hantan River, Jeongok-eup, Yeoncheon-gun.
Among them, six students managed to get out of the water on their own, while a sixth-grade elementary school student, Boy A, went missing.
Authorities deployed water rescue personnel and four drones to conduct a search operation, and at 4:45 PM, during an underwater search, they found Boy A in a state of cardiac arrest and transported him to a hospital.
Boy A and the other children, who are elementary school classmates, reportedly fell into the water while playing in the Hantan River after finishing school.
The six students who escaped on their own were found to have no injuries and were handed over to their guardians.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning witnesses and others.
