A fire broke out at a resource recovery facility in Jeongnam-myeon, Hyohaeng-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, at around 1:58 PM today (September 16).

A woman in her 50s suffered burns to her right arm in the blaze, and no additional casualties have been confirmed so far.

Responding to a facility official's report that "waste is burning," firefighters issued a Level 1 response about 20 minutes into the firefighting operations.

Considering the possibility of the fire spreading to nearby areas and the presence of a large amount of hazardous materials at the facility, authorities upgraded it to a Level 2 response at 2:29 PM.

A total of nine facility officials evacuated on their own at the time of the fire, and it was determined that no one remains inside.

Hwaseong City issued an emergency text message stating, "A fire broke out at 533-9 Gwirae-ri, Jeongnam-myeon, Hyohaeng-gu at 13:58 today, generating a large amount of smoke.

Nearby residents are advised to pay attention to safety by closing windows and taking other precautions."

Fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage once the flames are completely extinguished.
