Attention is focusing on the method and details of a major theft involving over 500 million won worth of jewelry stolen from a jewelry store located inside a hypermarket.

According to the Incheon Namdong Police Station and other sources on September 16, a man in his 20s, identified as A, stole 500 million won worth of jewelry and fled from a jewelry store inside the Homeplus Ganseok branch in Namdong-gu, Incheon, at around 2:00 AM on September 14.

CCTV footage from the scene clearly captured A's bold criminal process.

Wearing a mask and pulling the hood of a raincoat over it to fully conceal his face, A calmly walked toward the store.

He then removed the fabric covering the display case, smashed the upper glass with a blunt instrument he brought, and fled with 173 gold bracelets.

Although A stayed inside the building for about 10 minutes, it took him a mere 1 minute and 30 seconds to break into the store and scoop up the jewelry.

Immediately after the crime, he escaped by taking a taxi.

Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, police tracked his movements and emergency-arrested A on the street in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the crime, recovering all of the stolen jewelry.

The second floor of the Homeplus building houses restaurants, pharmacies, and clinics alongside the victimized store.

At 2:00 AM when the incident occurred, the market was closed and access by outsiders was restricted.

While CCTVs are typically installed throughout hypermarket buildings, both the Homeplus Ganseok branch and the affected store had contracts with private security firms.

It was confirmed that an alarm sounded during A's crime, prompting the security company to dispatch personnel to the scene while a report was simultaneously received.

During police questioning, A stated, "I entered by opening a 1st-floor window," and it was confirmed that this window was located in a partial CCTV blind spot.

Not only did he commit the crime in a short period of time, but he also used a blind spot as his entry route.

However, A had no prior work experience at this market building.

Accordingly, the police applied for an arrest warrant for A on charges of nighttime intrusion and larceny in a building, while intensively investigating whether there was an internal accomplice.

A police official stated, "The window A claimed he used to enter was in a slight CCTV blind spot, so we plan to verify the exact entry route later," adding, "We are continuing to investigate whether there were any accomplices."
