Where is providing Choseok support subsidies?

Next week is already the Choseok holiday.

Ahead of Choseok, some local governments have begun distributing livelihood support funds to local residents.

Let us take a look at where they are.

First, Hampyeong-gun, South Jeolla Province, and Uiryeong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province, have decided to pay 500,000 won per person.

Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, is paying 350,000 won, while Goheung-gun and Jangheung-gun in South Jeolla Province, and Yeongdong-gun in North Chungcheong Province, are paying 300,000 won per person.

Most of these subsidies are paid in the form of local love gift certificates or prepaid cards, which can be used at small business stores and traditional markets in the respective regions.

However, there is also a debate over the effectiveness of providing such subsidies.

While some welcome the move, saying it can ease the burden on local residents and boost consumption, others point out that its mid- to long-term economic stimulus effect is limited because it ends up as a one-time boost in spending.
