A person in their 70s who fraudulently received social security benefits and illegally subleased a government-subsidized permanent rental apartment to someone else has been forwarded to the prosecution.
The Jeonju Wansan Police Station in Jeonbuk Province announced yesterday (September 15) that it has forwarded person A (a woman in her 70s) without detention on charges including violations of the National Basic Living Security Act and the Special Act on Public Housing.
Person A is accused of fraudulently collecting approximately 35 million won in social security benefits from January 2023 to March of this year, despite driving a foreign car with an engine displacement of 2,000cc or more registered in her daughter's name.
Recipients of social security benefits are required to report to the sponsoring agency if they own or routinely use a passenger car with an engine displacement of 2,000cc or more.
It was also found that person A illegally subleased her subsidized permanent rental apartment to another person while residing at her children's home, collecting around 5.7 million won in monthly rent.
A police official stated, "We are currently conducting a special crackdown on real estate-related illegal activities," adding, "We will continue to crack down on acts that disrupt the real estate supply order."
