Former Seoul Seongdong Police Chief Kwon Mi-ye, who used an official emergency dispatch vehicle for commuting and other personal purposes to evade the public institution odd-even vehicle rotation system, has been confirmed to have received a minor disciplinary punishment of a three-month salary reduction.

According to SBS reporting, former Chief Kwon received the three-month salary reduction penalty following a decision by the National Police Agency's Central Disciplinary Committee.

A salary reduction is a penalty that cuts one-third of a person's pay for a period of one to three months.

It falls under minor discipline, which is lower than heavy disciplinary actions such as dismissal, removal from office, demotion, or suspension.

Former Chief Kwon came under controversy last May after an SBS report revealed that she had privately used an electric vehicle designated for first-responder teams dozens of times for commuting and other personal uses to bypass the public institution odd-even vehicle rotation system implemented for energy conservation.

The National Police Agency's inspection also confirmed that the use of the vehicle for commuting caused gaps in the first-responder team's duties.

Immediately following the SBS report, considering the gravity of the matter, the National Police Agency placed former Chief Kwon on standby status on May 21 and referred her to the Central Disciplinary Committee.

President Lee Jae-myung also previously ordered a prompt inspection and "stern disciplinary action" after receiving a report on the allegations through the SBS broadcast.
