A man in his 60s who fired a gas gun multiple times at a woman's face because she rejected his physical contact has been sentenced to probation.

The Incheon District Court announced that it sentenced 64-year-old A, who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Safety Control of Guns, Swords, Explosives, etc., and special assault, to one year in prison suspended for two years, along with an order for 120 hours of community service.

A was indicted on charges of firing a gas gun eight times at the back of the head and face of 30-year-old B at a pub in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, at around 11 p.m. in January.

Investigations revealed that he had previously purchased and possessed the gas gun from an online shopping mall.

At the time, A and B met each other for the first time at the pub.

It was revealed that he committed the crime after demanding physical contact, which B refused before informing the pub owner.

The court stated the reasoning for its sentencing by explaining, "The defendant has not been forgiven by the victim and has several past records for different types of crimes," while adding, "We considered factors such as the lack of prior records for the same type of crime and the relatively light injuries sustained by the victim."
