A 9.77-ton coastal composite fishing boat capsized in the waters near Gildo, Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, at around 4:10 a.m. today (September 15).

The Tongyeong Coast Guard, having received the report, rescued six crew members who were aboard a nearby fishing boat.

The boat's owner in his 70s, who was trapped inside the overturned hull and unable to escape, was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest and ultimately died.

Authorities determined that the boat capsized while heading back to port after finishing fishing operations and organizing nets at around 2:30 a.m. today.

The Coast Guard plans to tow the fishing boat to a safe area and investigate the exact cause of the accident by questioning the crew members and others.
