Just as cars enter an intersection on a green light, a vehicle approaches at high speed from the left and slams into the side of another car.
The impacted vehicle spins twice on the road before crashing into a roadside structure and finally coming to a halt on the shoulder.
At around 2:00 a.m. today, at an intersection in Okjeong-dong, Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, a car driven by a man in his 20s, surnamed A, struck a passenger car driving straight.
The impact of the crash knocked over a road sign and uprooted a tree to the point where its roots were exposed.
[Nearby Resident: There was a loud bang and a scraping sound like screeching, and... I looked straight out the window and one car was parked sideways in front of the traffic light.]
The driver who caused the crash, A, had a blood alcohol concentration level exceeding the legal limit for license revocation at the time.
The man in his 30s driving the victimized vehicle was found in cardiac arrest and rushed to the hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but ultimately passed away.
Due to irresponsible drunk driving, the ordinary commute home of a diligent young man turned into an irreversible tragedy.
[Shin Seung-bae / Bereaved Family Member: My younger brother was in poor health, so he underwent dialysis during the day and worked at a bowling alley at night. He worked to earn his own pocket money, but I never imagined he would get into an accident like this on his way home from work.]
[Bowling Alley Owner: Despite his illness, he was always diligent and seemed like a friend who tried hard at everything. Hearing the news, I was so shocked....]
Police believe that A, a car dealer, was driving a vehicle for sale while under the influence and ran a red light before causing the accident, and plan to apply for an arrest warrant.
