Democratic Party lawmaker Jeong Chung-rae explained today (the 14th) regarding the "amended decree on the organizational structure of the Public Prosecutors' Office and its affiliated agencies" and the "enforcement decree of the Prosecutors' Quota Act" prepared by the Ministry of Justice, saying, "This was not the President's will."

Appearing on Kim Ou-jun's "Humility is Hard News Factory" today, Jeong said, "It was reported that the Ministry of Justice and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency had consulted on the matter and that it was well-coordinated by the Civil Affairs Office, so the President left on an overseas trip under that impression," making the remarks.

He claimed, "(President Lee) checked again and issued a revised directive, saying, 'This is not what I intended.' Rather, it seems the President was backstabbed by the prosecution, which has been constantly looking for an opportunity to maintain its vested rights."

Regarding the direction of the reorganization of the Public Prosecutors' Office, Jeong pointed out, "Special judicial police officers bring in investigative information submitted by various ministries, which also serves a crime intelligence collection function. Crime intelligence collection and forensic science functions remain within the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and all of these must be eliminated."

He added regarding Serious Crimes Investigation Agency chief nominee Kim Ji-yong, "We need to deeply deliberate on whether it is appropriate for someone who opposed the separation of investigation and prosecution and the prosecution reform to become the head of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency."

Regarding the recent downward trend in President Lee's approval ratings, he advised, "Let's go back to that night of insurrection on December 3, 2024. Back then, we were all of one mind and heart."

He elaborated, "We shared public outrage against Yoon Suk Yeol's insurrection group. If we return to that mindset, the scope of mutual understanding will broaden, consensus will be formed, and we will become united with the thought of making the Lee Jae-myung administration a success."
