Bee sting accidents have been occurring continuously in Busan, with citizens being rushed to the hospital after being stung while clearing grave sites.

The Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters stated that at around 9:06 AM yesterday, a report was filed with 119 stating that two people, including a man in his 50s, were stung by bees while clearing weeds at a grave on a mountain in Gamcheon-dong, Saha-gu, Busan.

They were reportedly stung on areas including their heads, and one of them showed symptoms of breathing difficulties.

The dispatched fire authorities provided emergency first aid to them before transporting them to a hospital and removed a beehive found at the scene.

Bee sting accidents have been following one after another in Busan recently.

On the 9th, at around 9:00 AM, eight nearby residents were stung by wasps at an elementary school in Seo-gu, Busan, and were transported to a hospital or received emergency treatment at the scene.

On the 4th, two people in their 70s walking on Sujeongsang Mountain in Dong-gu were attacked by wasps, and one of them suffered serious injuries after being stung in the head.

Even on August 18, 16 people—including infants, children, and adults—were stung by wasps near the Songdo Marine Cable Car close to Amnam Park in Seo-gu.

According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, 77.8 percent of patients transported to hospitals by 119 rescue services due to bee stings in Busan between 2023 and 2025 occurred between July and September.

In particular, September recorded the highest number with 130 people, accounting for 30 percent of the total.

Wasps are known to exhibit heightened activity and aggressiveness in August and September as their defensive instincts to protect their larvae become stronger.

Fire authorities advised that when clearing graves or hiking, people should avoid dark-colored clothing such as black and minimize skin exposure. They also urged that if abnormal symptoms such as breathing difficulties, dizziness, or generalized hives appear after being stung by a bee, one should immediately call 119.
