A woman in her 50s, who interfered with the arrest of her boyfriend by clinging to him and biting a police officer's finger after the boyfriend was caught on suspicion of assaulting an officer who demanded a breathalyzer test, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term.

Chuncheon District Court Judge Koh Bum-jin, presiding over Criminal Single Court Division 2, announced on the 11th that Defendant A (55), who was indicted on charges of obstruction of official duties and assault causing injury, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.

According to the indictment, the incident began last March in Sokcho when police officers dispatched following a report of suspected drunk driving demanded a breathalyzer test from A's boyfriend, B.

When B assaulted a police officer and was arrested on the spot, A clung to B and interfered with the arrest.

When a police officer attempted to pull A away, A bit the officer's finger, inflicting an injury that required about two weeks of medical treatment.

Judge Koh stated, "The defendant has not yet been forgiven by the victim," adding, "However, the sentence was determined by taking into consideration the fact that she has fully confessed to the crimes and has no prior record of punishment for similar offenses."
