A bizarre incident occurred in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, where a police officer accidentally discharged a Taser while attempting to demonstrate its functions to middle school students, injuring one of them.

According to the Eumseong Police Station, at 4:30 p.m. on the 10th, a middle school student was struck by a Taser fired by Police Inspector A in an open lot in Daeso-myeon, Eumseong-gun.

Police found that Inspector A, who was about to return after handling a separate report, was asked by a group of about 10 nearby middle school students to show them the Taser. He intended to demonstrate the "stun gun" function, which delivers electrical stimulation without firing electrode darts.

However, a cartridge of electrode darts was still attached to the Taser. Unaware of this, Inspector A pulled the trigger, and one of the fired darts hit the thigh of a middle school student standing 3 to 4 meters away.

Fortunately, the other electrode dart grazed the student's arm, preventing an electric current from flowing between the two darts, police stated.

Police added that although the student went home after stating there were no particular issues at the scene, the student later complained of pain and is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.

On the other hand, the student's parents are reportedly protesting that police did not immediately transport the student to a hospital even though electricity had flowed through the student's body at the time.

Inspector A reportedly stated, "I did not know the electrode darts would fire."

Police plan to inspect Inspector A and investigate whether to subject him to disciplinary action.
