Professional football club Gangwon FC extended their undefeated streak to five matches after securing a dramatic draw against Gimcheon Sangmu, courtesy of a late penalty kick scored by Kim Dae-won during stoppage time in the second half.

Playing away at the Gimcheon Stadium in the Hana Bank K리그1 2026 Round 29 match held today (September 13), Gangwon bounced back from a 0-2 deficit at halftime by netting two goals in the second half to tie the game 2-2.

Extending their recent undefeated run to five matches (1 win, 4 draws), Gangwon (42 points) maintained their 5th place standing, while Gimcheon (30 points), having let a secure victory slip away, extended their winless streak to eight matches (7 draws, 1 loss) and remained in 11th place.

Gimcheon opened the scoring just four minutes into the first half when Kim Ju-chan capitalized on a defensive blunder by Gangwon, firing a right-footed shot from the left side of the penalty area.

It was a giveaway goal resulting from defensive confusion in front of the goalmouth.

Having drawn first blood, Gimcheon seemed to seize control of the match by adding another goal during a counterattack in the 43rd minute of the first half.

Kim Yi-seop maneuvered past two Gangwon defenders near the left side of the center line, surged forward, and delivered a through ball. Park Se-jin then received it and scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the penalty area.

Ending the first half trailing 0-2, Gangwon regrouped and picked up the pace in the second half.

Gangwon began their pursuit in the 29th minute of the second half when Kim Dae-won delivered a cross near the left side of the penalty area, which Park Sang-hyuk headed in for a goal.

Maintaining their late offensive push, Gangwon dramatically earned a penalty kick in stoppage time of the second half.

In a ball sent from the back by Hong Chul in the 45th minute of the second half, Gangtoji competed in a header near the right side of the penalty area against Sangmu defender Kim Min-gyu.

The ball trickled backward, and a Gimcheon defender cleared it away.

However, after communicating with the video assistant referee (VAR) officials, the referee stopped the match and conducted an on-field review, subsequently awarding a penalty kick to Gangwon after determining that the ball had struck the arm of Kim Min-gyu during his earlier aerial duel with Gangtoji.

Facing a near-certain defeat, Gangwon turned the VAR-awarded penalty into an equalizing goal through Kim Dae-won, narrowly salvaging a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium, Gwangju FC tied 1-1 with FC Anyang.

With this draw, last-place Gwangju (14 points) extended their record for the most consecutive winless matches across K League 1 and 2 to 27 games (11 draws, 16 losses).

Gwangju had a promising start when Eydel scored the opening goal just 14 minutes into the first half, but they failed to secure any additional goals after conceding an equalizer to Anyang's Chae Hyun-woo in the 25th minute of the first half, ending the match in a draw.

Anyang (35 points) also remained stuck in 9th place, extending their winless run to four matches (2 draws, 2 losses).
