A fire broke out at an apartment in Buan, North Jeolla Province, early this morning (September 13). A woman in her 40s died in the blaze, and her 7-year-old son was seriously injured.

Flames rage inside an apartment unit while thick smoke pours out of the windows.

The exterior walls of the building are blackened, and the interior has been reduced to ashes.

The fire broke out at around 1:00 AM today on the third floor of a six-story apartment building in Buan-eup, Buan-gun, North Jeolla Province.

The fire was completely extinguished in about 50 minutes, but a woman in her 40s was found dead inside the home.

Her 7-year-old son, who suffered second-degree burns on his arms and other parts of his body, was found on the flowerbed below the apartment and transported to the hospital.

Fire authorities believe that when the fire broke out, the son jumped from the third floor down to the first-floor flowerbed, while the mother was unable to escape the flames in time.

Police and fire authorities have been conducting a joint inspection since this morning.

Firefighters are gathered in front of a factory.

The interior is filled with grayish-white smoke.

At around 8:00 AM today, a fire broke out at a wood pellet manufacturing plant located in Eohyeon-dong, Namwon, North Jeolla Province.

As a result of the fire, 17 workers inside the factory inhaled smoke, three of whom were taken to the hospital.

Fire authorities dispatched to the scene brought the major flames under control after about 4 hours and 30 minutes, and are currently working on putting out remaining embers.

A fire official explained, "Because there is a lot of wood fuel inside the factory, it is taking some time to completely extinguish the remaining embers."

Fire authorities believe the fire started from machinery inside the factory and are investigating the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage.
