Lee Sung-joo, management director of iMBC, has been nominated as the next president of MBC.
The Board of Directors of the Foundation for Broadcast Culture (FBC), the major shareholder of MBC, held a closed-door interim board meeting this afternoon on the 13th to conduct public interviews and a vote for the final two presidential candidates, ultimately selecting Director Lee Sung-joo as the new presidential nominee.
Nominee Lee joined MBC as a reporter in 1995 and served as the head of the MBC branch of the National Media Workers' Union from 2013 to 2015.
He subsequently served as the director of the Media Planning Bureau from 2020 to 2023, and has been serving as the management director of iMBC since 2024.
Nominee Lee is scheduled to be officially appointed as president at the MBC general shareholders' meeting to be held tomorrow on the 14th, and his term will be three years.
This MBC presidential selection marks the first time citizens have participated in electing the head of a public broadcaster, in accordance with the revised Broadcasting Act.
A Public Recommendation Committee for Presidential Candidates (PRC), consisting of 150 citizens, listened to the policy presentations of four candidates, went through deliberations, discussions, and a Q&A session, and ultimately recommended the final two candidates to the Board of Directors.
