Police have launched an investigation after military rifle ammunition was found on the emergency stairwell of an apartment building in Gwangju.

According to the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, a report was filed by a resident at around 8:00 a.m. today (the 13th) stating that bullets were discovered at an apartment in Dosan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju.

Upon dispatching officers and military authorities to the scene, police confirmed that fourteen 5.56mm bullets were found between the first and second floors of the apartment's emergency stairwell.

The bullets, which are used for the M16 military rifle that is currently out of production, were found packed in a paper box with no signs of use, according to authorities.

Police stated that there are no suspected terror links or anti-state motives, and are currently investigating the circumstances under which the ammunition was abandoned.
