A power outage occurred at the Sacheon Water Purification Plant operated by K-water (Korea Water Resources Corporation), which supplies tap water to seven cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do, causing water supply disruptions in those regions.

The outage occurred at around 10:30 AM today due to a malfunction in the electrical equipment within the purification plant.

While conducting emergency recovery operations, K-water utilized emergency generators to supply water.

However, as the supply failed to keep pace with demand, the water supply was eventually halted starting at around 6:00 PM.

As a result, seven cities and counties—Tongyeong, Goseong, Sacheon, Geoje, Jinju, Namhae, and Hadong—where the Sacheon Water Purification plant directly supplies water or sends water to local government purification facilities, are experiencing water outages.

The respective local governments sent emergency text alerts to residents notifying them of the impending water outage and advising them to "secure domestic water supplies."

K-water completed emergency repairs at approximately 8:20 PM, but expects that it will take some time to normalize the water supply.

K-water plans to investigate the exact cause of the power outage once the water supply is fully restored.
