North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's daughter, Kim Ju-ae, has recently been frequently spotted wearing a brooch shaped like the North Korean flag. Analysts suggest that wearing this brooch instead of the traditional portrait pin bearing the faces of the Kim family carries a powerful message.
Reporter Kim Ayeong brings us the details.

On the 6th, at the commissioning ceremony for the 5,000-ton destroyer Kang Gon held at Wonsan Port in Gangwon Province, North Korea.
As uniformed soldiers salute, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, his wife Ri Sol-ju, and their daughter Ju-ae appear.
They are the only three people without portrait pins bearing the faces of North Korea's past supreme leaders on their left chests.
Instead of a portrait pin, Kim Ju-ae wears a brooch, and she has recently appeared quite often wearing what appears to be a stylized North Korean flag.
It closely resembles the one worn by her mother, Ri Sol-ju, during the North Korea-China summit in March 2018.
In the North Korean system, wearing a brooch alone without a portrait pin itself implies a status on an entirely different level, with analysts suggesting the intention is to reveal her public figure status through the symbol of the national flag.
This clearly marks a difference in stature from Kim Jong-un's younger sister, her aunt Kim Yo-jong, who unfailingly appears wearing a portrait pin.
[Park Gye-ri / Professor, National Institute for Unification Education: It shows how power will shift within North Korea. It makes it clear that power will not go from Kim Jong-un to Kim Yo-jong. I think it clearly signals that to the people inside North Korea.]
Last March, the visiting president of Belarus even presented a brooch to Kim Jong-un as a gift to be delivered to Kim Ju-ae.
[(I hope this can be delivered to your daughter. It is a brooch.) Thank you.]
Beyond accessories like brooches, her attire is another visual device used to imprint Kim Ju-ae's presence.
This was during her visit to the Patriotic Martyrs' Cemetery on the 14th.
While most people were dressed in black, Kim Ju-ae drew attention by being the only one wearing a pink skirt suit.
