A 40-year-old teacher who psychologically dominated a high school student for years, producing sexually exploitative materials, assaulting, threatening, and sexually assaulting her, has been sentenced to prison.

The 13th Criminal Division of the Uijeongbu District Court recently sentenced a 40-year-old male, identified as A, to 7 years in prison on charges including special rape and the production of sexually exploitative materials.

According to the judgment, A was appointed as a teacher at a high school in March 2022 and approached B, who was then a second-year student, under the pretext of college entrance counseling.

Using his status as a teacher, he psychologically dominated B and engaged in sexual relations with her when she was 16 years old.

He also gaslighted her by imposing a frame of being a "mistress" to induce guilt and prevent her from escaping the relationship.

A is known to have produced sexually exploitative materials 190 times, including demanding that B film sexual videos or send photos of her body.

A's crimes continued even after B entered university.

It was recognized that A assaulted and sexually assaulted B after threatening to distribute the sexually exploitative materials if she did not drop out of university, or because she secretly participated in university club activities.

Furthermore, A continued his crimes for three years, threatening her with a weapon when she tried to end the relationship and stalking her when she cut off contact.

Standing trial, A denied the charges, claiming that he had never threatened B and that the sexually exploitative videos had been filmed voluntarily.

However, the court did not accept A's claims.

The court pointed out, "Although he was a teacher who should have educated, protected, and supervised students, he produced sexually exploitative materials against his own student and committed assaults and threats," adding, "The victim must have experienced considerable sexual displeasure as well as extreme fear and psychological pain."

In response, the prosecution appealed, arguing that the 7-year prison sentence was too lenient, while A did not submit an appeal.

Accordingly, the second-trial proceedings are scheduled to be held at the Seoul High Court.
