North Korea fired an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea early this morning (September 12), the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced.

The JCS is currently analyzing the specifications and range of the North Korean projectile.

If the projectile is confirmed to be a ballistic missile, it will mark North Korea's first launch in 23 days.

Previously, North Korea fired about 10 short-range ballistic missiles, presumed to be 600mm super-large multiple rocket launchers, from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea at around 5 p.m. last month on August 20.
