A man in his 60s has died after falling from the exterior wall of a building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where he was doing interior work.
At around 11:00 a.m. today (September 11), an accident occurred in which a man performing interior work from a suspended scaffolding platform—known locally as a "dalbigye"—hanging by ropes on the exterior wall of a building in Sinsu-dong, Mapo-gu, fell from a height equivalent to the fifth floor.
The man was transported to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but ultimately died.
An official from the Ministry of Employment and Labor stated, "The accident happened when a rope snapped during work," adding, "There were no additional safety devices such as a safety rope."
Authorities plan to investigate construction officials and others to determine whether safety regulations were followed.
