The Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office requested a supplementary investigation today (September 11) regarding the arrest warrant for Representative Kim Byung-kee, which was requested by the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

This comes four days after the police applied for the arrest warrant against Representative Kim.

The prosecution announced, "The Public Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office has requested a supplementary investigation regarding the arrest warrant applied for by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency."

It added, "Considering comprehensively the fact that the suspect complied with seven summons and the investigation progress over about five months from the final investigation of the suspect to the application for the arrest warrant, we determined that the explanation regarding the necessity of the arrest is insufficient."

"As a result of a careful review of the collected evidence and the suspect's explanations, we also requested a supplementary investigation as there is a need to reinforce evidence for some of the charges," it added.

The police are expected to decide whether to reapply for the warrant after reviewing the prosecution's reasons for returning it.

The possibility of forwarding the case without detention without reapplying for an arrest warrant is also being raised.

Previously, the police applied for an arrest warrant for Representative Kim on the 7th on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, professional breach of trust, and obstruction of business.

The police also included in the arrest warrant the charges of receiving family hotel accommodation vouchers from Korean Air (bribery) and personally misappropriating the official use card of former Dongjak District Council member Cho Jin-hee (professional breach of trust).
