A national skills competition showcasing expertise in electrical technology, which serves as the foundation of the national industry, was held yesterday (the 10th) in Cheongju. From overhead distribution lines where technicians climb utility poles to connect wires, to solar power and substation facilities, a competitive display of craftsmanship unfolded across various events.

A technician wearing a white hard hat carefully inspects a complex circuit and connects the wires to the correct spots.

Speed and accuracy are the keys to success.

Beads of sweat soon form on the focused technician's face.

The 34th National Electrical Construction Skills Competition took place at the Korea Electrical Contractors Association headquarters located in Osong, Cheongju, with some 500 participants and officials in attendance.

As this is an annual event held only once a year to compete with skills and know-how polished over time, the competitors' resolve is extraordinary.

[Kim Tae-eon / Jeollanam-do Representative Competitor: It took a few days to prepare. Although the preparation process took a long time... I prepared hard and managed to participate like this.]

The highlight of the competition is undoubtedly the overhead distribution line event, which involves installing wires on utility poles.

Climbing utility poles over 10 meters high to connect wires and install insulating materials continues without a moment to rest.

The teamwork between the competitors working at heights and the team members on the ground assessing the site and assisting is more important than anything else.

[Park Yang-gyu / Overhead Distribution Line Competitor: There were honestly no difficulties during the preparation process. Because these are senior colleagues we have routinely practiced with, if we do things as we usually do, I think we will get good results.]

In addition, various technical events necessary for generating and transmitting electricity, such as substation facilities and solar power generation facilities, were held.

I think this competition is a meaningful occasion that demonstrates the level of such crucial electrical installation technology.]

The National Electrical Construction Skills Competition serves as a stage for electrical technicians to test their skills and pride, as well as a symbolic gathering for the Korea Electrical Contractors Association where technicians from all over the country come together.
