Police have launched a full-scale investigation into Minister of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won.

The Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station called in Lee Jong-bae, a former Seoul Metropolitan Council member who filed a complaint against nominee Kim on charges including violations of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, dereliction of duty, and abuse of power, around 10:30 a.m. today (September 11).

This marks the first time police have questioned a related party regarding the suspicions surrounding nominee Kim.

Through a statement, the former council member said, "Given that nominee Kim and the Minister of Food and Drug Safety exerted pressure, it raises suspicions that even if there were issues with the documents, they conducted a formal review and granted approval."

Police plan to summon and question a representative of the civic group that filed the complaint against nominee Kim tomorrow as well.
