The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency has received a certificate of appreciation from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) of the U.S. Navy for its swift response to an unauthorized trespassing incident by outsiders at a U.S. Navy logistics support ship MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) facility.

The NCIS is the agency responsible for overseeing security operations for the ongoing U.S. Navy logistics support ship MRO project in South Korea.

On May 2 and May 6, three men attempting to fish crossed the fence of a U.S. Navy logistics support ship maintenance yard at a pier in Uam-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, trespassing into the facility one after another.

Following a formal investigation request from the NCIS on May 26, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency launched an investigation and apprehended the suspects sequentially.

They were all referred to the prosecution on June 9 on charges including joint trespassing and intrusion on a structure.

The NCIS highly commended the Busan police for their prompt arrests and additional security prevention measures, and the regional director for the Asia-Pacific region personally visited the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency to present the certificate of appreciation to Busan Police Chief Kim Sung-hee.
